2016 Reading Challenge

2016 Reading Challenge

2016 Reading Challenge

I love to read! I mean I probably read more blog post than I write.  Give me a good book and a quiet place to read and I’m happy! I would have to say in the last few years I have read more fiction than any other type of genre. This year I wanted to challenge myself to read more and different genres.

I have you ever purchased a bundle of e-books…you know when they are having a sale! I have twice but I have to say I haven’t read many of the books. So reading some of those e-books I purchased at a stellar price it is on my reading challenge!

How about Shakespeare? Have you read him since high school? I know I haven’t! And my husband has wanted me to read Julius Caesar for sometime time. I even bought it but haven’t read it yet…

What about book on certain topics like homemaking, parenting, marriage, or homeschool? I know for me these are areas that I want to improve on and know there is something new to learn!

Do you read new authors? I know I get in a rut where I fall in love with one author and read every book that they have out there! Then when I have read them all. I don’t know what to read next.

Or is there a series you should have read as a child? Little House on the Prairie? Little Women? Chronicles of Narnia? I know I have seen the movies but have not read the books!

Devotional books?

How to books?

Non Fiction?

Really the list could go on and on and on!!!

There are so many options out there! And lets just say my reading challenge is long this year! Would you like to join me on this challenge? Here is a print out of my challenge! And yes I still get to choose some fiction too 😉 But I want to grow! And challenge myself! I just started using good reads so I will post what books I read on there. Come follow me if you like!  and I will probably share on here too!

Are you taking a 2016 Reading Challenge?  Let me know if you are joining me in the challenge!

P.S. I do plan on reading through the Bible this year. I see it as a privilege not a challenge 🙂

  1. Good luck with your reading challange! I don’t read books much, stick with articles and magazines mostly lol, so I won’t be doing the challange haha

  2. Wow that is an ambitious challenge!!! I also tend towards more fiction, but I do have a few non-fiction homeschooling, parenting, and relationship books on my list this year. I actually am already on my 2nd book of the year…the first one could have been classified as romance, which is not normal for me as I generally am not too interested in that genre. I am glad I stepped out of my normal zone, though, as it was a GOOD book!! It was “The Summerhouse” by Jude Deveraux (sp?) and more about friendship and what could have been than actual romance, and luckily there was only 1 or 2 of those cheesy love scenes that I dislike.

If you are interested, I am giving away a book later this month and a giftcard and am inviting other bloggers to join in….not sure if you have filled out the form already or not, but if not and you’re interested, here it is: http://drops-of-learning.com/blogger-opp-valentines-giveaway-with-book-and-gift-card/

  3. This is such a great idea and I have so many friends that would love this, too. The print-out is an awesome idea to keep track of everything! Plus, I am old-school that way and I love check-lists and writing things down.

  4. Love this! Shakespeare is great, especially now as a more “seasoned” adult – I had a few classes in college, but experience brings so much more to his writing. And I agree, I never count my Bible reading as part of my reading challenge – it’s a different experience and “discipline”

  5. Love this! I am doing a reading challenge too… but I am picking two books a month and posting about it on the blog! I pinned this and I look forward to following along!

  6. Very ambitious challenge! I want to read through the Bible this year too. I’ll accept that part. I’m in the middle of my master’s thesis so I expect my other reading to be on that topic for now. Maybe next year.

  7. I am huge bookworm so this post makes me happy! Good luck with your goals. I’m working on book number 2 for Jan. and have a goal of at least 30 books read in 2016.

  8. This is awesome! I love the variety of genres you suggest–even a CS Lewis book! I’m going to try to do it. I see it as both a challenge and a privilege!

  9. I love how you have this divided up into categories, Samantha. It’s so helpful for focusing and choosing what to read from the vast sea of options out there. Am totally pinning this for future reference. And congratulations on being featured on Intentional at Home…stopping by from there!
