2017 Reading Plan (5 after 5 Link Up)

2017 Reading Plan A look at how I plan to read a wider variety of books this year. #reading #goals

Welcome back to the 5 after 5! After a long week come and share your list of 5! Each week we will have a new topic for the following Saturday! So think of your great 5 After 5 List and come link up with us! This week is Books I plan on Reading in 2017.

Let me just say I have big goals for my reading list this year! Instead of writing a different post about my reading plan I will include it here. This year I have an author that I want to read and books in different categories. I have been trying to read a variety of books instead of just easy fiction. I have also started to read more than one book at a time. So instead of just listing 5 books for the year here are my 5 categories for the year! If you are on Goodreads I would love to connect!

2017 Reading Plan (My 5 Categories)

Author of the Year: C.S Lewis.

I plan on reading many of his books and learning as much as I can. I got this inspirations from Teaching From Rest by Sara Mackenzie.  I’ve seen the movies but I have never read The Chronicles of Narnia. I also plan on reading:

  • Mere Christianity
  • The Great Divorce
  • Screwtape Letters
  • and whatever else I can fit in this year…

Devotional Books

I’m trying to keep a devotional book going at all time. I own quite a few I haven’t ever read and there are some that would make good repeats! Here are a few on my List Devotions:

  • Devotions for a Healthier You
  • One Thousand Gifts
  • The Broken Way
  • Wives of the Bible
  • Women of Courage
  • Be Satisfied

Homemaking Books

This category on my list covers all books that pertain to the home and relationships in the home ( motherhood, wife etc.), and self-improvement books really anything that is non fiction 🙂  Here are a few books in this category I plan on reading:

  • It Starts with Food
  • Living Well Spending Less
  • Getting Things Done
  • 5 Love languages
  • The mind-gut connection
  • Hand Free Life
  • Fringe Hours
  • A Mothers Rule of Life

OK so we plan to start officially homeschooling next fall so I have a ton of educational books I want to read! This category is a big priority to me 🙂 Here is a little peek:

  • Laying Down the Rails
  • CM Companion
  • CM Education
  • More CM Education
  • Minds More Awake
  • Awakening Wonder
  •   6 Volumes of Charlotte Mason Education
  • The Well Trained Mind
  • Educating the Whole Hearted Child.

Classical/Fiction (Series)

I didn’t grow up reading a lot of classics. I really would love to read a lot this year! I mean I haven’t even read Little House on the Prairie Series or Anne of Green Gables! I love regency books too.  Here are a few on this list:

  • Little House on the Prairie
  • The Measure of a Lady
  • This Road We Traveled
  • Lady Maybe
  • Little Women
  • Anne of Green Gables
  • Caddie Woodlawn
  • Gulliver’s Travels,
  • Much Ado About Nothing
  • Taming the Shrew
  • Emma

Next weeks topic is 5 Ways to Enjoy Winter!

That’s right, every post will be read, pinned and tweeted!
Every Saturday, just stop by to add your own list of five. Then pop over and read as many other post as you’re able to each week- treat it like a true party and really mix it up and mingle with our fun little community!
The rules are simple: just write your own list following the prompt each week (feel free to interpret it loosely or in a unique way!), follow each of the three host on the social media channel of your choice. and then get into the spirit of the party by grabbing your favorite beverage or snack and reading the list of other party goers.

  1. I love how you went with categories like this! I haven’t ever read Anne of Green Gables, either – I’ve been figuring I’ll read them to Gv fairly soon and we can experience them together! We’ve read several of the Little House books together and she loves them, so you might want to turn those into a read-aloud, too!

  2. This is a long list! I have a big pile of books to read, but when I get a new book, it usually moves to the top of the pile! I need to make a list like you did so that I actually read them all! I also have a CS Lewis book on my mental list- The Weight of Glory. I hope to finish the three CM volumes that I haven’t read yet, starting with Parents and Children with my online book club!
