Welcome to Healthy Fit ‘n Lean 2016 week 1! I am excited for this and have started week 1 off on the right foot! I will be honest Sunday was my birthday! It’s hard to believe that I am 31. Remember when you were a little tyke and you thought that was old! It doesn’t feel old anymore 🙂 We went to the cheesecake factory…I did have a piece of cheesecake for my birthday but I did eat a yummy salad for my main meal 🙂 I have been remembering my word of the year it is persevere! And I have kept that in mind along with my goals!
Healthy Fit ‘n Lean 2016 Week 1
Made to Crave (by Lysa Terkeurst)
I will be sharing what I found helpful out of each chapter each week. This week I will just be sharing my thoughts from the introduction. If you want to read along with me next week will be chapter 1 and so on each week.
There were a lot of good points in the introduction and it is soooo worth reading! Here is what I found motivating and helpful for finding my “want to.”
I think Lysa drew a right conclusion with this statement, “It’s not the ‘how to’ I’m missing. It’s the ‘want to’…really wanting to make changes and deciding that the results of those changes are worth the sacrifice.” I find this hit right on the bulls-eye for me. I know the how to but sometimes I give up and lose the want to. But really the changes I want to make should(and are) worth the sacrifice.
While reading this I really had to think about my want to. What were my reasons for wanting to lose weight? It is just to see the a certain number on the scale or are there more important reason! And there are! Lysa talks about getting honest with ourselves, and really asking the question “How am I doing” In all areas- spiritually, mentally, and physically. This is really a great question to answer and write out.
Another point she makes is “it is easier to make excuses than to change.” Isn’t that the truth. My hubby and I were talking around Christmas time about goals we have and he said, “its time to give up excuses.” There are so many excuses we can come up with for not taking the time to get healthy, to exercise or to eat healthy. But really it is time to give up the excuses and make the changes that we need to! That I need to!
Lastly, Lsya states, “getting healthy isn’t just about losing weight…It’s about recalibrating our souls so that we want to change- spiritually, physically, and mentally.” She says mentally she had to decide that she was tired of settling and tired of compromising and really I have reach this point in my own weight loss journey. I want change! I now know better what my “want to” is and it is more than just a number on the scale.
Have you taken the time to find your “want to” for your weight loss? Really finding it and not just naming some number on the scale? If not take the time to do that today.
My goal for exercise is to complete 30-40 min of an exercise DVD or use the treadmill for that amount of time 4-5x a week. Cardio can be done everyday but I do try to take 1 rest day completely. To be honest though I do like to do something everyday because I can tell a difference in how I feel on the days I don’t exercise. My rest days will be different each week. It depends on my work schedule on what day(s) I take off.
I made my menu last week and it has already changed! I wasn’t planning on going out to eat for my birthday so everything got shifted by one day! You can download my menu for your personal use. It is color coded to go along with THM. Red is S meal, Orange is E meal and Green is FP meal. I am combining THM and South beach. South beach seems to work better for me for loosing weight and THM more for maintenance. So there are very few E meals. South beach does allow beans in the first 2 weeks so I am having them on salad a couple of days!
My goal is to lose 35 lbs at least. This is the my big goal. My goal for January is to lose 10 lbs. My weekly goal is 2 lbs a week. How I plan to do this:
- Healthy eating
- Drinking water
- No sugar or junk food
- Keep a food journal
- Positive thinking
Quote of the Week
“Life is a pain- and you get to choose: either the pain of discipline or the pain of disappointment.” -Ann Voskamp
I have found motivation in this-pain of discipline or pain of disappointment? I have thought about this while making decisions this week not just related to weight loss but healthy living and parenting choices. Discipline and perseverance can be hard choices but will be easier to live with than the disappointment of not choosing the best thing, the right thing whatever the area in my life. I want to make sure that I have the discipline to persevere in my choice to lose weight, and live a healthier life! What about you? I hope you will join me!
This week the verse I am working on memorizing I found in chapter 1 of Made to Crave. Not sure what version she uses for her bible verses (I think it is the NIV). I will usually post verses out of the KJV.
1 Corinthians 10:23- Everything is permissible- but not everything is beneficial.”
1 Corinthians 10:23- All things are lawful for me, but all thing are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. (KJV)
It can be so easy when trying to lose weight to get in the mindset of I can’t have this or I can’t have that. But I think if we look at it with the mindset is this beneficial for me? Is it good for me? Can really go a long way? Really even when eating healthy foods are we watching portion sizes? Is this amount beneficial? Can we not also pig out on good foods and not see the scale move? I have read many a post on the THM FB page of I have been on plan but the scale isn’t moving! THM doesn’t regulate portion sizes and really to lose weight not only do you have to be conscience of what you are eating but how much. To much of a good thing is not always a good thing anymore. And yes you can eat THM desserts but is it really a good idea to eat it for breakfast just because it is “allowed” on my “diet.” I have personally been trying to ask myself is this beneficial?
Drinking warm drinks such as tea or even chicken broth will help you to feel full. Try drinking a healthy drink before having a meal or snack. A lot of times we are thirsty but mistake our bodies signals has hunger.
My goal is to lose 35 lbs. It would be better for me if I lost a little more than this but this is my big goal right now. I will post each week how much I have lost and do a count down to zero from thirty-five!
For the challenge this week find an eating plan you want to follow be it Trim Healthy Mama, South Beach, Whole 30. Whatever your plan commit and stick to it. Leave me a comment on what your plan is! I would love to cheer you on in your weight loss journey!
