The Battle to Lose Weight

I have been working on losing weight for quite a while. It’s a struggle. It’s hard. It’s harder than you think it will be. As I have been on the journey of weight loss I have learned a lot about myself. About my body. About my emotions. About how I think. The battle to lose weight is more than a physical endeavor. It is so much more. More than I thought or prepared for. And the longer I am on the journey then more I learn.

A person that goes into battle must know the goal they are trying to accomplish. They must know what they are going to face. They must prepare. They must see the enemy. They need to know the enemy.  They must have a mapped out plan. They take action.  They expect victory. They fight to win.

The battle to lose weight is a battle against yourself.

The Battle to Lose Weight is

A Physical Battle

A Mental Battle

An Emotional Battle

A Spiritual Battle

A persons battle to lose weight has to be more than just getting up one day and saying to themselves I am going to lose weight. I am going to eat right and exercise. It is more. It takes more. I’m still on my journey. I’m still learning. I don’t have all the answers. I have to look at my battle everyday. I have to plan my strategies. I have to know myself. I have to know my body. I have to know my mental struggles. I have to know my emotions. I have to know my spiritual struggles.

If you’re trying to lose weight you are in a battle too. Are you ready for that battle? Have you truly prepared for it?

Over the next few weeks I will be looking at the different aspects of The Battle to Lose Weight. The Physical. The Mental. The Emotional. The Spiritual.

  1. This is a timely post that’s for sure! I woke up this morning feeling defeated and unmotivated and just plain awful but after reading this post you have encouraged me and motivated me to get moving!

  2. You’re right! It is a battle and it much, much more than just eating right and exercising right. While that plays a huge part of course, it’s very much a battle in the areas you mentioned. Blessings for your journey as you refuse to give up!

  3. You are so right that it is a constant battle. It is a rollercoaster of emotions. One day I am super pumped that I lost a pound and the next day I am depressed because the scale says I gained 2. It is not fair, but I always just remember that I am loved no matter what the scale says!

  4. I totally agree. It’s hard, and it’s a challenge every day for me. While I’ve made lifestyle changes, I still miss some old habits. I just don’t give into them anymore. I’m here for any support you may need. Looking forward to reading more in the series.

  5. The physical battle (such as losing weight) is not confined to the physical alone! I believe this to be true as well. Everything is so intertwined. That is why with fasting, we give up food in order to be sensitive to the Spirit.

  6. Such a great perspective and attitude toward the process. Staying healthy really is a multifaceted process. Thanks for sharing what you are learning along the way. Wishing you an incredible week as you continue your journey!

  7. I’m currently in this battle as I work towards my goal of 20lbs, and my ultimate goal of 40% of my body weight. It’s going to take time, and a lot of work but I want to go about it a healthy way.

  8. Wow you are so right. It surely is a battle–a battle against our flesh and all the cravings and laziness and busyness. I had never thought about it this way before but it makes perfect sense! I love how you made me think about it a different way. It is fun and challenging to think of yourself as a warrior–a warrior against fat and unhealthiness, lol!
